Lip Fillers Sydney

Achieve balance, symmetry and volume
Lip fillers Sydney 01-5

Your lips are a prominent feature of your appearance and your expression. In fact, your lips are probably one of the first things that people notice about you. However, if you are not happy with the fullness or the shape of your lips, lip fillers can be used to achieve balance, symmetry and volume.

What are dermal lip fillers?

Dermal lip fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that is found in the body, mainly in the skin. Hyaluronic acid works by attracting and holding water, which will add volume to the treated area. Treatment with lip injections can enhance the size and shape of the lips, hydrate the lips and correct asymmetry, making them in harmony with the rest of the face.

Lip Fillers Before and After

What to Expect

During your consultation with Dr Lowe or one of our experienced injectors, you will discuss how you want your lips to look and what will happen during your treatment. One of our friendly team members will assess your unique features and discuss your goals to develop a personalised treatment plan, designed to provide you with the best treatment possible, tailored to your needs.

The lip enhancement procedure involves injecting small amounts of dermal filler into the lips at a time, to build the desired shape and add the right amount of volume. Results can be seen in as little as three to four days, and can last about six to 12 months.

Ideal Candidates

Since dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, adverse reactions are very uncommon, making this an ideal treatment for almost anyone. Lip injections are ideal for anyone who wants to add more volume to their lips, create more definition or simply improve the symmetry of their lips. Since the results are temporary, this is also an ideal treatment for anyone who isn’t looking for anything permanent. However, some factors can make a candidate not suitable for treatment, such as having certain health conditions. Ultimately, a consultation at MUSE Clinic Sydney is the best way to decide if you are a suitable candidate for treatment with lip fillers.

Ideal candidates can include those who:

  • Are physically and mentally healthy
  • Do not have any active cold sores on the lips
  • Are non-smokers
  • Will follow the necessary recovery instructions
  • Do not have heath conditions that can potentially impact the healing process during recovery
  • Hold realistic expectations for the outcome of the dermal lip filler procedure

The Lip Filler Procedure

At the beginning of the procedure, a local anaesthetic cream and an ice pack will be applied in order to minimise any pinching and discomfort.

Every patient’s lips are injected differently but we will ensure that you are happy with the fullness and shape of your lips every step of the way, instead of injecting all of the filler at once. If for any reason you are not happy with your results, a dissolving enzyme can be used to reverse the effects of the treatment.

Depending on your goals for treatment, the lip filler procedure can be personalised to:

  • Enhance the size of the lips
  • Correct the shape of the lips
  • Correct asymmetry
  • Soften creases in the lips
  • Soften wrinkles on the side of the lips
  • Hydrate the lips
  • Create a lifting effect
  • Define the Cupid’s bow

The average lip filler treatment doesn’t take longer than 30 minutes, making it the ideal lunchtime procedure. Lip fillers require very little to no downtime, so you are free to return to work directly after your appointment.

One of our experienced injectors will develop a personalised treatment plan during your consultation, so that you will know what to expect during the procedure.

FAQs

Are lip fillers permanent?

While lip fillers are long-lasting, they are not permanent, and patients who wish to maintain their results will need top-up treatments as the filler begins to dissolve. Lip fillers can last from six to 12 months, depending on how quickly your body will naturally metabolise the filler over time.

The temporary nature of lip fillers is a benefit of the treatment, as tweaks and changes can easily be made when managing results. In the case that results from treatment with lip fillers are unsatisfactory, the filler can be dissolved.

How long do lip fillers last?

How long that lip fillers will last will depend on each patient’s metabolism. Some patient’s lip fillers can last for months longer than others. Generally, lip fillers can last anywhere from six to 12 months before a top-up treatment will be needed to refresh the original results.

Can I combine my lip injections with other treatments using dermal fillers in the one session?

You may be able to combine other dermal filler procedures with your lip injections, such as filler injected into other areas of the face or body. If combining treatments with dermal fillers interests you, you can discuss this during your consultation with one of our experienced injectors.

Can I wear lipstick after lip fillers?

You should wait until three days after lip filler treatment to resume wearing lipstick. In fact, since your lips will need some time to heal after treatment, usually about one week so that swelling and any bruising can subside, we recommend not receiving dermal lip fillers just before an event or special occasion.

Will the dermal filler lip injections hurt?

A topical numbing cream and an ice pack will be applied to the lips at the beginning of the procedure to ensure patient comfort. Therefore, you should not be able to feel anything during the procedure besides a very small pinch from the needle.

How should I prepare for my treatment with lip injections?

To prepare, you should avoid consuming alcohol, and stop taking certain medications that can thin your blood as this can hinder the body’s ability to heal after the lip filler procedure. You should not wear any lipstick on the day of your procedure, and you should make sure to stay hydrated. At your initial consultation, some specific preparation instructions will be outlined to you, so that you can get ready for your procedure and ensure that your lips are in the best condition to receive lip injections.

Will I be able to move my lips properly after the procedure?

As long as the dermal filler lip augmentation procedure is performed by an experienced injector, you will still be able to move your lips properly after the procedure. Initially, minor swelling may make the lips feel less comfortable to move, however, this is temporary and should only last for a few days. After swelling has subsided, you should be able to move your lips in the exact same way that you naturally could before your procedure.

Will my lips look overdone?

At MUSE Clinic, we strive to deliver natural-looking results. Therefore, your lips will not look overdone or unnatural. During the procedure, we will inject small amounts of dermal filler at a time, to make sure that the desired volume is reached. Our goal is to enhance the natural beauty of each patient, creating subtle results that complement the patient’s appearance.

Do the lips bleed during the procedure?

The lips can bleed very minimally during the lip augmentation procedure with dermal lip fillers. Fine needles are used to apply the lip injections, which can cause pin-point bleeding for a very short amount of time. Bleeding during and after the procedure will only be a cause for concern if the patient has taken certain medications or supplements that can thin the blood before the procedure. This is why we advise to pause taking these medications while preparing for your treatment with cosmetic injectables. For more information on how to prevent bleeding during the procedure, you can discuss the necessary lip augmentation preparation steps with one of our injectors during your consultation.

Will I have lumpy lips after my lip enhancement procedure?

When you choose a highly experienced injector to perform your treatment with cosmetic injectables, you should be left with smooth, natural and even lips. Lumps and bumps left on the lips after a lip augmentation procedure are caused by an inexperienced injector not administering the dermal lip fillers correctly. However, initial swelling may make your lips appear uneven. This is temporary and will subside within a few days to one week at the most.

How much dermal lip filler will I need?

It can be hard to determine the amount of filler that you will need before having a one-on-one consultation at our Sydney clinic. Usually, we recommend that patients start with a lower amount, in order to create the most natural-looking results. During the procedure, we will inject small amounts of filler at a time to make sure that we are creating the right shape and adding the correct amount of volume. If too much dermal lip filler has been injected, this can be reversed by using a dissolving enzyme. Your personal aesthetic goals for the lip augmentation procedure will determine the amount of lip filler that you will need, as well as the current shape and volume of your lips.
