Microdermabrasion

Remove dead skin cells and boost cell regeneration

Having a smooth and clear complexion is dependent on how easily your skin is able to push fresh cells to the surface. If your skin becomes congested, skin problems become a lot more common and will occur more frequently.

Microdermabrasion helps remove dead skin cells and increases the rate at which your cells regenerate, leaving a fresh complexion and that looks and feels healthy. When toxins and impurities are able to flow out of your skin, you are left with cleaner and clearer skin. Your normal skincare routine will also be more effective after a microdermabrasion treatment because product ingredients can be absorbed more easily.

Along with being an effective treatment on its own, microdermabrasion is the ideal pre-treatment for laser or chemical peels.

What to Expect

Once your skin concerns have been discussed with Dr Lowe or one of our experienced clinicians, all makeup and oil will be removed from your skin to prepare it for your microdermabrasion treatment.

Microdermabrasion treatments are painless and will give dull, lifeless skin a radiant glow in 30 minutes. The microdermabrasion device is a diamond-tipped wand with a suction that is moved over the skin in a brush-like manner.

The treatment removes up to two layers of dead epidermal skin cells, which improves blood flow and loosens any superficial blemishes. Think of microdermabrasion as an intense clean and exfoliation treatment for your skin. A soothing serum will be applied to your skin after your treatment to provide it with essential hydration and nutrients.

Since the treatment is not harsh, your skin will not require days to heal and any redness or flaking that occurs after your session will subside within 24 hours. Microdermabrasion is the ideal lunchtime treatment and patients can return to work directly after their session.

In most cases, one microdermabrasion treatment is enough to freshen the skin, but some patients may require several treatments to achieve optimal results. To maintain the results of your treatments, one treatment every 2 – 3 months is recommended.

What Can Be Treated with Microdermabrasion?

Here are some of the most common skin concerns that can be treated using microdermabrasion:

  • Dull Skin: Boost your skin’s radiance and enjoy a healthy glow
  • Blackheads: Get rid of unsightly blackheads without damaging your skin
  • Acne Scars: Reduce the appearance of acne scars
  • Skin Discolouration: Create a more even skin complexion with the help of microdermabrasion treatments
  • Fine Lines: Minimise the appearance of fine lines on the face and neck
  • Enlarged Pores: Clear out and reduce the size of pores that make your skin more prone to breakouts

Ideal Candidates for Microdermabrasion

The ideal candidate for microdermabrasion treatments should be in good health physically and want to address common skin concerns and imperfections. While microdermabrasion is great for younger skin because it clears out pores and reduces acne scars, it is also ideal for older skin because it stimulates collagen production and treats sun damage and conditions such as rosacea.

In order to determine whether you would benefit from a treatment such as microdermabrasion, we will analyse your skin and review your goals. In some cases, a combination of treatments may be required to achieve your desired result.

Microdermabrasion Results

Directly after your microdermabrasion treatment, your skin will look and feel smoother and your pores will be clean. Your skin will also look plumper, creating a more youthful appearance. If your skin appears slightly red, this is because of the increased blood flow, which is bringing essential nutrients and oxygen into your skin. We will provide you with product recommendations that will help you maintain your results until your next treatment.
