Microneedling Sydney

INSTANTLY HYDRATE AND GRADUALLY REJUVENATE YOUR SKIN
Microneedling in Sydney, models 01-2, MUSE Clinic

Microneedling treatment, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), uses a vibrational stamping device with very fine needles to address some of the most common signs of aging and skin damage.

Lines and wrinkles tend to form when the skin is dehydrated and no longer produces enough collagen. Microneedling is designed to create micro injuries to the skin, which stimulates a wound healing response. CIT can be combined with PRP or hyaluronic acid serum, applied directly into the upper layer of the skin. Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1000x its weight in water, which has a dramatic hydrating effect on the skin. Mesotherapy serums, designed to target key skin concerns such as pigmentation, redness or dull skin, can also be used in combination with microneedling for an enhanced skin-rejuvenating effect.

Along with repairing damaged skin, multiple microneedling treatments will help strengthen the epidermis over time, leaving you with improved skin tone and texture.

Microneedling treatments can be customised to treat all skin types and tones. We will work with you to develop a treatment plan that will meet your specific needs.

Microneedling Before and After

Microneedling Procedure – What to Expect

Following a discussion about what you hope to achieve with microneedling treatments, your skin will be analysed, cleaned and prepped.

As the microneedling device passes over your skin, it will create micro wounds that will trigger your skin’s natural healing processes. The size and shape of the microneedling device makes it easy to move across all areas of the face, including hard to reach areas such as the nose, eyes and lips.

The average microneedling treatment can take about 30 to 45 minutes and is only mildly uncomfortable. A topical numbing agent can be applied prior to your treatment to alleviate any discomfort.

For optimum results, at least three treatments spaced four weeks apart will be required but we will advise you accordingly based on your goals and requirements.

You will also be provided with specific aftercare instructions that will accelerate your healing and enhance your results.

What Can Microneedling Treat?

The key skin concerns that can be addressed with microneedling include:

  • Scarring: Minimise the appearance of acne and injury scars
  • Age Spots: Repair skin that is showing signs of age or sun damage
  • Lines and Wrinkles: Improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, neck and décolletage
  • Enlarged Pores: Enlarged pores are highly noticeable and make your skin more susceptible to infection. Microneedling can reduce the size of your pores
  • Skin Laxity: By boosting collagen levels, your skin will appear more supple and youthful
  • Uneven Skin Tone: Pigmentation is another common sign of aging that can be addressed with microneedling

Ideal Candidates

Microneedling is suitable for all skin types, including darker and very fair skin. Since microneedling doesn’t require any heat, there is very little chance of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, making this an ideal treatment for almost anyone.

If acne, redness, scarring, fine lines, enlarged pores or aging skin is your biggest concern, microneedling may be an ideal treatment for you. A thorough skin analysis with Dr Lowe or one of our experienced clinicians will also determine the best course of action.

Generally, good candidates for skin needling, or collagen induction therapy, include those who:

  • Are in good physical health
  • Do not have any active infections in the treatment area
  • Do not suffer from keloid scarring, eczema, psoriasis, or sensitive skin
  • Do not have any open wounds on the treatment area
  • Do not take blood-thinning medications
  • Will hold realistic expectations for the results of the treatment

Costs of Microneedling at MUSE Clinic in Sydney

Costs of microneedling, or skin needling treatment, will depend on the size of the treatment area. Since treatment costs can vary from patient to patient, it can be difficult to determine your total expenses before coming in to the clinic for a skin assessment and personalised treatment plan. We recommend booking a consultation to receive a personalised quote, developed after discussing your treatment needs and goals.

Patients will also need multiple treatments for best results, which is important to keep in mind when considering total costs.

Results and Recovery

After your skin needling treatment, you may experience some redness and sensitivity, which will typically subside within 24 hours. Your skin may also shed several days after your treatment but this is a part of the healing process and won’t last longer than a day or two.

It’s important to remember that your collagen induction therapy results will be gradual because the skin’s healing response will need time to take effect. Once your skin has healed, it will appear smoother and brighter. New collagen will start forming from about week six and you will notice a gradual improvement in the condition of your skin over the next six to 12 months. Additional treatments may be required during this period to achieve a more dramatic effect.

You will be given some recovery instructions to follow in order to maximise your healing process and help to ensure optimal results. These recovery instructions may include to:

  • Protect your skin with sunscreen
  • Use mineral makeup for 24 hours
  • Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication or applying cold compress, as this could interfere with the skin’s natural rejuvenation process
  • Avoid scratching or rubbing the treated area
  • Avoid strenuous exercise
  • Avoid excessive heat exposure, including saunas and steam rooms
  • Manage discomfort with pain medication, if necessary
  • Try to sleep with your head elevated on an extra pillow to reduce swelling
  • Stay hydrated

Risks and Complications

All skin treatments can be linked with a certain degree of risks and side effects. While the side effects of microneedling are relatively minor, it will be important to take care of your skin after treatment to ensure that you can achieve the best results. Risks and complications of skin needling treatment can include:

  • Irritation
  • Skin sensitivity
  • Redness
  • Pinprick Bleeding
  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Peeling

FAQs

How many treatments will I need?

The number of microneedling treatments that you will need will depend on the state of your skin in the treated area and your desired results. Typically, about three to six treatments is best to achieve ideal results. The amount of treatments you will need can be determined during your consultation at MUSE Clinic Sydney.

Can I achieve the same results with a home roller microneedling device?

No, home roller devices will not deliver the same results as a professionally performed microneedling treatment. In fact, we advise against using home roller devises as they can cause harm to the skin, which can lead to complications such as infection and scarring. If you are interested in skin needling treatment, it is always best to go to a clinic with highly experienced and trained professionals who know how to perform the treatment effectively.

What should I do before my microneedling treatment?

Before treatment, you will need to make sure that you will not have any laser procedures on the treatment area for at least two weeks. Additionally, you will need to avoid hair removal procedures such as waxing in the treatment area for about one week. You will also need to avoid strong skincare products that contain retinoids, exfoliants, or acids for at least five days. To ensure that the skin’s natural inflammatory response will work after skin needling, you should avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication for at least three days. On the day of your microneedling treatment, you will be advised not to shave the treatment area, as this can cause irritation. Instead, try to shave the area on the day before the treatment. Any further preparation steps that will be necessary to follow will be outlined to you during your initial consultation.

Does microneedling have downtime?

Microneedling has minimal downtime.  Immediately after treatment the skin may appear flushed, tight with possible pin prick marks.  This typically resolves within 24 hours.
