What Is Skin Tightening?
Skin tightening refers to treatments designed to improve the appearance of loose or lax skin. As we age, changes in collagen, elastin and the deeper supporting structures of the face and body can contribute to reduced firmness and definition. While surgery physically repositions or removes tissue, non-surgical skin tightening treatments use controlled energy to potentially stimulate a tissue response and support gradual collagen remodelling.
At Muse Institute of Aesthetic Medicine, our approach to non-surgical skin tightening is led by Medical Director Dr Stephen Lowe (MED0001207553), a Global Key Opinion Leader for Ultherapy and founding member of the Ultherapy Global Task Force. His experience in ultrasound-based skin tightening, research and international education informs the clinical protocols used across the Institute.
Muse Institute Skin Tightening Treatments
Ultrasound Skin Tightening — Ultherapy PRIME
Ultherapy PRIME uses microfocused ultrasound energy to target specific tissue depths beneath the skin and stimulate new collagen. Real-time ultrasound visualisation allows the clinician to see the tissue layers during treatment and plan energy delivery according to the patient’s anatomy. It is commonly considered for concerns including mild to moderate laxity through the face, jawline, neck and brow.
Infrared light Skin Tightening- SkinTyte
SkinTyte uses broad-spectrum infrared light to heat the deeper layers of the skin while the surface is actively cooled. This controlled heating stimulates a tissue response and gradual collagen remodelling. SkinTyte offers a gentler approach to skin tightening and may be considered where more gradual improvement with minimal downtime is preferred.
The Consultation Process
Every skin tightening treatment at Muse begins with a comprehensive consultation. Your practitioner will assess your skin quality, medical history and treatment goals to determine suitability and will discuss the options most appropriate for your individual circumstances. Not every candidate will be suited to every treatment, and your practitioner can advise accordingly.
Areas Commonly Treated
Face and Jawline
Early laxity through the lower face, jawline and under the chin
Neck
Reduced firmness and laxity through the neck
Brow
Ultherapy PRIME can be used in appropriate patients where reduced brow firmness or position is a concern.
Decolletage
Treatments may be considered for skin laxity and lines through the upper chest.
Body
Depending on the technology and suitability, areas such as the abdomen, knees and elbows may also be treated.
What to Expect
Non-surgical skin tightening does not produce the same degree of correction as surgery. Results generally develop gradually as the treated tissue responds and collagen remodels over the following weeks and months. The degree of change varies according to the technology used, treatment intensity, age, skin quality and the degree of laxity present before treatment.

FAQs
Are non-surgical skin tightening treatments safe?
Every treatment plan begins with a thorough consultation to assess your suitability, and your practitioner will discuss the relevant risks, expected outcomes and recovery considerations with you directly. As with all aesthetic treatments, individual experiences and results can vary.
How long do results last?
Because these treatments encourage your body’s own natural collagen production, results typically develop gradually and can vary depending on skin quality, age and lifestyle factors. Your practitioner can give you a more personalised expectation during your consultation.
Who is skin tightening suitable for?
Non-surgical skin tightening may be suitable for people noticing mild to moderate skin laxity, reduced firmness or early changes in facial and body contours. It is often considered by patients who would like to improve skin firmness and definition but do not require, or are not seeking, surgical correction.
The most appropriate treatment depends on factors including your degree of skin laxity, skin quality, anatomy, age, medical history and treatment goals. Some patients may be better suited to Ultherapy PRIME, while others may benefit from a gentler approach such as SkinTyte.
Where skin laxity is more advanced, non-surgical treatment may not provide the degree of correction a patient is seeking. A consultation allows us to assess this before recommending treatment and to be transparent when another approach may be more appropriate.
How much does skin tightening cost in Sydney?
Pricing depends on the treatment area and your individual treatment plan, so we recommend booking a consultation to receive an accurate quote.
Can skin tightening be combined with other treatments?
Depending on the concern, skin tightening may form part of a broader treatment plan alongside treatments addressing skin quality, pigmentation, texture or volume. Combining treatments is not automatically better; the appropriate sequence and timing depend on the individual patient and the biological response being targeted.
