Hair Loss

MUSE Clinic hair loss treatments, model 011-2

There are several reasons why men and women experience hair loss but regardless of the cause, it is a stressful issue to have to deal with. No two patients are the same, which is why hair loss treatments need to be customised in order for them to be effective.

Two of the most common causes of male pattern baldness are genetics and age but medication, stress, lifestyle choices and underlying medical conditions can also be the root cause of the problem.

The first step is to identify the cause of your hair loss before a treatment plan can be developed. Our personalised approach to treating hair loss will ensure that you are receiving treatment that addresses your specific concerns.

It’s not uncommon to believe that hair transplants are the only way to treat hair loss but there are non-surgical alternatives available that will encourage healthy cell activity and natural hair growth.

What to Expect

During your consultation with one of our experienced clinicians, your medical history, medications and lifestyle will need to be evaluated before treatment options can be discussed. Depending on the cause of  you hair loss, we may suggest some additional investigations to treat the underlaying cause before a hair loss treatment plan can be pursued.

There are several different hair loss treatment options available, and we will often use a combination of treatments to achieve the desired result.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) involves using the patient’s own blood to encourage healthy cellular activity across the scalp. A small sample of blood will be withdrawn before it is placed in a centrifuge to be processed. The centrifuge will separate the growth factor-rich plasma from the rest of the blood, which is what will be injected into the relevant areas of the scalp. The average treatment takes about an hour and only requires 12 hours of recovery.

LED Phototherapy

Laser therapy is another option for treating hair loss. Using advanced LED technology, red light is projected onto the scalp, which is then absorbed by the hair follicles and stimulates growth. Once the light is absorbed, it stimulates the body’s natural defence, which activates complex nutrient systems that feed the follicles. Since this is a non-invasive treatment, it is not painful and no downtime is required. The average treatment takes up to 20 minutes.

Oral Medications

Dr Lowe may prescribe some oral meditations as part of your hair loss treatment plan.
