Hair Loss

hair loss main - Hair Loss 1

There are several reasons why men and women experience hair loss but regardless of the cause, it is a stressful issue to have to deal with. No two patients are the same, which is why hair loss treatments need to be customised in order for them to be effective.

Two of the most common causes of male pattern baldness are genetics and age but medication, stress, lifestyle choices and underlying medical conditions can also be the root cause of the problem.

The first step is to identify the cause of your hair loss before a treatment plan can be developed. Our personalised approach to treating hair loss will ensure that you are receiving treatment that addresses your specific concerns.

It’s not uncommon to believe that hair transplants are the only way to treat hair loss but there are non-surgical alternatives available that will encourage healthy cell activity and natural hair growth.

What to Expect

During your consultation with one of our experienced clinicians, your medical history, medications and lifestyle will need to be evaluated before treatment options can be discussed. Depending on the cause of  you hair loss, we may suggest some additional investigations to treat the underlaying cause before a hair loss treatment plan can be pursued.

There are several different hair loss treatment options available, and we will often use a combination of treatments to achieve the desired result.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) involves using the patient’s own blood to encourage healthy cellular activity across the scalp. A small sample of blood will be withdrawn before it is placed in a centrifuge to be processed. The centrifuge will separate the growth factor-rich plasma from the rest of the blood, which is what will be injected into the relevant areas of the scalp. The average treatment takes about an hour and only requires 12 hours of recovery.

Mesotherapy Injections

Using a specialised mesotherapy gun, essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids are strategically injected into the scalp in order to support healthy hair follicles. An anaesthetic cream can be applied to minimise any discomfort. The treatment aims to improve blood circulation, reduce inflammation, increase follicle size and decrease DHT levels, which is the hormone responsible for male pattern baldness. The average treatment takes about 30 minutes and multiple sessions will be required. No downtime is required.

LED Phototherapy

Laser therapy is another option for treating hair loss. Using advanced LED technology, red light is projected onto the scalp, which is then absorbed by the hair follicles and stimulates growth. Once the light is absorbed, it stimulates the body’s natural defence, which activates complex nutrient systems that feed the follicles. Since this is a non-invasive treatment, it is not painful and no downtime is required. The average treatment takes up to 20 minutes.

Oral Medications

Dr Lowe may prescribe some oral meditations as part of your hair loss treatment plan.

Ideal Candidates for Hair Loss Treatments

There are a number of different factors to take into consideration to determine whether or not someone is an ideal candidate for the hair loss treatments offered at the clinic. Dr Lowe and his experienced team will be able to offer a diagnosis following a thorough consultation.

Hair Loss Treatment Results

Each hair loss treatment produces results at different rates and if you will be receiving a combination of treatments, results will vary. We will advise you accordingly.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

PRP therapy results can take up to six weeks to become noticeable but many patients tend to see improvements immediately after their treatment.

Mesotherapy Injections

Most patients will see a noticeable difference within the first few weeks following their treatment but this will depend on how severe the hair loss was to begin with. The full effects of the treatment will be seen after 6 months.

LED Phototherapy

Patients will need to wait at least two months before they will start seeing significant results. Topical treatments can also be used to accelerate and boost results.

Oral Medications

The results form oral medications may take several weeks and any improvement may not continue if the medications are stopped.
