PRP Therapy

Naturally trigger restorative and healing processes in your skin
PRP Main - PRP Therapy 1

Collagen is what keeps your skin looking youthful and soft but as you age, collagen production starts to slow and your skin suffers as a result.

Damaged tissue leads to wrinkles, uneven skin tone, poor texture and general sagginess but platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a form of natural intervention that encourages healthy cellular activity. Derived from your own blood, PRP is a treatment that uses platelets to deliver growth factors directly into the skin tissue, triggering a restorative and healing process.

Where PRP was once mostly used to treat sports injuries, today it is one of the most popular alternatives to traditional cosmetic treatments. Using the body’s own tissues as a restorative treatment, PRP heals connective tissues, increase tissue production and supports the growth of new blood vessels.

What to Expect

Prior to your PRP treatment, Dr Lowe or one of our experienced clinicians will discuss your aesthetic goals as well as your medical history with you. Depending on the size of the area that you want to treat, your treatment will take 1 to 1.5 hours to complete.

Your blood will first be collected in specially designed tubes, after which it will be placed in a centrifuge for several minutes – the centrifuge process helps to separate the PRP from other cells within the blood.

Using a series of small injections, the plasma will now be injected into the treated areas. In some cases, PRP may also be combined with other treatments such as skin needling or dermal filler for optimal results.

Since PRP treatments use your own blood, there is very little chance of experiencing any adverse reactions. The blood samples are also processed according to specific clinical standards, so your safety is assured.

PRP treatments are minimally uncomfortable, which means you can return to your usual routine soon afterwards.

Patients will require more than one treatment to achieve their desired result though. Your lifestyle, skin condition and expectations will all make a difference to your results, but most patients will require at least 3 treatments spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart. In order to maintain your results, top up treatments are recommended every 6 – 12 months.

What Can Be Treated with PRP Therapy?

PRP therapy is a versatile treatment that relies on the body’s natural healing processes to achieve results. Here are a few of the concerns that can be treated with PRP:

  • Skin Laxity: PRP boosts collagen production to create a firmer, more youthful appearance
  • Hair Loss: In order to encourage healthy hair growth cycles, PRP treatments can also be used to treat the scalp
  • Uneven Skin Tone: Since the skin relies on collagen to achieve an even skin tone, PRP treatments can help with pigmentation concerns
  • Wrinkles & Dark Circles: Ageing, stress and environmental factors can all lead to a decrease in elasticity and volume but PRP can reverse some of the most common signs of ageing
  • Stretch Marks: Strengthen the skin and lessen the appearance of stretch marks
  • Womens Health (PRP into the labia and vagina): PRP can be used to improve vaginal skin quality and may improve vaginal and clitoral sensitivity
  • Mens Health (PRP into the penis): PRP can be injected into the penis assisting blood flow and skin sensation

Ideal Candidates for PRP Therapy

PRP therapy is ideal for anyone who is looking for a more natural way to treat common signs of ageing as well as hair loss.

Your medical history, lifestyle and any underlying medical conditions will be taken into account during your consultation.

Unfortunately, PRP therapy is not a suitable treatment for pregnant women.

PRP Therapy Results

The results of your PRP treatments will appear gradually, with results becoming more visible after 2 weeks. Patients can expect to see the full results of their treatments after 4 months.

Results are gradual because the PRP process needs time to stimulate collagen production and for the collagen to take effect. No two patients will experience the same results though, which is why we will need to create a personalised treatment plan that will meet your specific requirements.

Carefully following all aftercare instructions and recommendations will help enhance your PRP results.
